The Hope Altar

On November 6th, 2024, Het Huis Utrecht had their final day of performance. Called Mourning Rage, the morning of performance, dancing, kickboxing, and breakfast was dealing with the grief of having their funding cut by the municipality. The Hope Altar stood in Studio 3 so that our rage as a community could be channelled into imagining a hopeful future for the arts industry.

From December 2023-February 2024, The Hope Altar lived in MaMA Rotterdam as part of the Arriving Not Yet exhibition created by Jinxiao Zhou. Scenography of the altar is also by Jin. During this edition, over 250 hopes for the future were collected.

30 items were added to the altar on this evening at the sold out event.
The Clouds
One-on-one performance

An interactive performance played inside clouds during Het Huis' Club Huis. On November 23, 2022, daydreamers were invited to play re-imagined games from childhood to practice radical imagination and create utopias.

The first public performance of the Hope Altar. To celebrate the launch of Kunstlicht's newest edition, they invited Utopia Syndicate to perform. In reaction to the edition's theme, "Algorhythms: Living In and Out of Sync with Technology," we shared two practices: hope altar building and futurity catchers.
