PHRYNE
Phryne is a work-in-progress exploration of societal cognitive dissonance in regards to sex work through the story of Phryne, a sex worker in Ancient Greece who saved her own life by flashing a jury.
Using a laid-bare storytelling and teaching format including a “classroom” layout, slideshow presentation, and audience participation, Phryne explored a look into art history from a feminist lens and brought audience members into a world much different than today, encouraging them to ask themselves questions about ownership, taboo, discrimination against sex workers, the power of language, and our responsibility in setting stories straight.
Special thank you to the team of La Serre and my dearest, Leni Krivy.
